Reducing anxiety and depression through Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has continued to prove its effectiveness in reducing anxiety and depression in individuals. Presumably, this is through its ability to decrease sympathetic overactivity, or the “fight or flight” response, within our brain.

Functional MRI studies in these patients have shown increased in blood flow to the limbic regions of the brain in patients who have undergone hyperbaric oxygen therapy, inferring that HBOT plays a prominent role in reducing these symptoms.

HBOT is commonly reported to improve sleep which benefits mental health, overall wellness and brain function.

One study conducted by the military, showed significant improvements is PTSD symptoms in veterans who underwent HBOT regardless of the number of months or years since their service. HBOT has also been shown to improve concussion symptoms regardless of time since the injury, substantiating its effectiveness for both despite the time span.
